The Innovation Days 2010: Interesting Talks and presentation of Vodafone Application Award

Once again, this year's Innovation Days were held in November in Vodafone's Test & Innovation Center in Düsseldorf. From November 9 to 11, we again welcomed numerous visitors from our line of business - customers, project partners, representatives from the international Vodafone Group and journalists. The focal theme was the most recent fields of innovation "Machine-to-Machine Communications" (M2M) and the launch of LTE (Long Term Evolution).

Very interesting talks held by high-ranking guests provided exciting insights into background information about the most interesting topics that are currently discussed within the sector.

At the accompanying exhibition, both Vodafone itself and our partners had the opportunity to present their innovative solutions to the trade visitors.

Best Practice Example for M2M: Phoenix Contact relies on the competence of the Vodafone Test & Innovation Center

As already mentioned at the beginning, Machine-to-Machine Communication is currently one of the major fields of innovation within the telecommunications sector.

Based on a successful project realized by Vodafone's Test & Innovation Center together with its customer Phoenix Contact Deutschland GmbH, we would like to give you an idea of how the Test & Innovation Center can also support you in developing and testing such solutions.

Safety for your M2M solution with CSD

Vodafone is continuously involved in maintaining state-of-the-art technology within its network in order to provide customers with an optimum service. For this purpose, a new IP-based technology is being implemented in the switching centers, which, however, may entail longer connection set-up times in the case of Circuit Switched Data Services (CSD).

In order to give our customers the certainty that their solutions, devices and applications also function perfectly after the change-over, the Test & Innovation Center provides a test environment in Düsseldorf. A switching center that has already been changed over and is connected to the live network is used here. The customers can test their application cases themselves with regard to compatibility with the new technology and thereby check whether their data are transmitted correctly from the terminal device to their systems.

Keeping with the fixed line spirit of the times: FTTx Testing at our Eschborn location

Currently, most projects, products and innovations focus heavily on mobile communications and thereby particularly on LTE. Vodafone would, nevertheless, like to underline that we will, of course, continue to concentrate with full speed ahead on innovations in the field of fixed network communication. Vodafone combines all the activities within this field at its site in Eschborn.

A highly topical example of this is the possibility of testing fibre optic products (FTTx) live in a real end-to-end environment. Vodafone's partner ZTE has recently made use of this opportunity.

CeBIT 2011: Just Around the Corner

As sector insiders know: The New Year will only just have begun and preparations will already be taking place for what is still the largest and most important trade fair within the field of IT and telecommunication: CeBIT in Hanover.

CeBIT 2011 begins on Tuesday March 1 and closes on Saturday March 5. Vodafone will be represented there from March 1 - 4 and will again target its presence at the specialized visitors.

Auch in diesem Jahr fanden im November wieder die Innovation Days im Düsseldorfer Test & Innovation Center von Vodafone statt. Vom 9. bis 11.11. konnten wir wieder zahlreiche Besucher aus der Branche begrüßen - Kunden, Projektpartner, Vertreter der internationalen Vodafone-Group sowie Journalisten. Der thematische Fokus lag auf den jüngsten Innovationsfeldern "Machine-to-Machine Communications" (M2M) und der Einführung von LTE (Long Term Evolution).

Hochinteressante Vorträge von hochkarätigen Referenten vermittelten den Teilnehmern spannende Einblicke und Hintergrundinformationen zu den Themen, die die Branche gerade bewegen.

Und in der begleitenden Ausstellung hatten sowohl Vodafone selbst als auch unsere Partner Gelegenheit, ihre innovativen Lösungen dem Fachpublikum vorzustellen.

Anhand eines erfolgreichen Projekts, welches das Vodafone Test & Innovation Center gemeinsam mit seinem Kunden Phoenix Contact Electronics GmbH realisiert hat, möchten wir Ihnen vorführen, auf welche Weise das Test & Innovation Center auch Sie bei der Entwicklung und beim Test solcher Lösungen unterstützen kann.

Sicherheit für Ihre M2M-Lösung mit CSD

Vodafone engagiert sich kontinuierlich, sein Netz auf dem neusten Stand der Technik zu halten, um den Kunden den bestmöglichen Service zu bieten. Hierzu wird in den Vermittlungsstellen eine neue IP-basierte Technologie eingeführt, wodurch es bei Circuit Switched Data Services (CSD) allerdings unter Umständen zu längeren Verbindungsaufbauzeiten kommen kann.

Um unseren Kunden die Sicherheit zu geben, dass ihre Lösungen, Geräte und Applikationen auch nach der Umstellung einwandfrei funktionieren, stellt das Test & Innovation Center eine eigene Testumgebung in Düsseldorf zur Verfügung. Dabei wird eine bereits umgestellte Vermittlungsstelle genutzt, die an das Livenetz angebunden ist. Die Kunden können selbständig ihre Anwendungsfälle auf Kompatibilität mit der neuen Technik testen und somit prüfen, ob ihre Daten einwandfrei vom Endgerät an ihre Systeme übermittelt werden.

Auch im Festnetz am Puls der Zeit: FTTx-Testing am Standort Eschborn

Der Fokus von Projekten, Produkten und Innovationen liegt derzeit stark in der Mobilfunkwelt und dort insbesondere auf LTE. Dennoch, möchte Vodafone unterstreichen, dass wir uns selbstverständlich auch weiterhin mit voller Kraft Innovationen auf dem Gebiet der Festnetzkommunikation widmen. Alle Aktivitäten in diesem Bereich bündelt Vodafone an seinem Standort in Eschborn.

Ein hochaktuelles Beispiel dafür ist die Möglichkeit, Glasfaser-Produkte (FTTx) in einer echten Ende-zu-Ende-Umgebung live zu testen. Von dieser Möglichkeit hat vor kurzem zum Beispiel der Vodafone-Partner ZTE Gebrauch gemacht.

Brancheninsider wissen: Kaum hat das neue Jahr begonnen, laufen auch schon die Vorbereitungen für die nach wie vor größte und wichtigste Fachmesse der IT- und Telekommunikations-Welt an: der CeBIT in Hannover.

Die CeBIT 2011 beginnt am Dienstag, den 1. März, und schließt am Samstag, den 5. März. Vodafone wird vom 1. bis zum 4. März vor Ort vertreten sein und seinen Auftritt wieder gezielt auf das Fachpublikum ausrichten.
